sump gasket

Hi everyone, hope you are all well. My question is what is the best method of fitting a sump gasket, i have the one from LD Parts which is 1.5mm, do you use gasket sealer or not. When you look along the top of sump the holes stick up slightly, i'm just wondering how this manages to seal properly, Many thanks Steve

On Stag no.2 engines ,the sump was not very flat due to PO overtightening the bolts. I tried rectifying this without much luck. I used gasket sealer. Seems Ok but have not run the car much on a partial rebuild. I would use a sealer where you can remove the sump without destroying the gasket.

I went around the periphery of the sump tapping the stretched holes flat before applying Wellseal…

The sump has a raised swage to encourage sealing pressure.
the areas around the bolts can end up being distorted after overtightening.
planish those back down carefully to the original swage height.
use a pu sealant (best) or dirko (2nd best) on both sides of the gasket.
dont use slimey silicone.
make sure the front cover is on first if possible & that all the front cover threads are sound.
