    wiper wheel boxes

Hi Guys, am I right in thinking that you can change the wiper wheel boxes without removing the wiper rack , just under the bolts/nuts on the wheel boxes and remove the front chrome nut or am I talking from my rear end?

Thanks for you help in advance

Difficult without getting behind the dash. They are clamped to the pipes as well. Those nuts also seize. Those boxes are expensive.

Thanks I currently have my dash loose/out and glove box out so may have a go, let me know if you need all the dimensions of that backing ring?

Yes you can remove the wiper wheel boxes on there own, much easier with dash out, remove the nuts on the back of wheel box to get the wiper mech out of the way, then undo the wheel box wiper nut ( they can be hard to undo some times )

Because the swept area of the screen is a good deal less than 180 degrees, this means that at least half of the teeth on the cogs in the wheelboxes are unused. Provided it hasn't been done before, all you need to do is pull the drive cable free of the wheelboxes, turn the spindles through 180 degrees, and replace the cable so it runs on the "New" teeth. Much easier and cheaper.

I turned my wheel boxes around.... made no perceivable improvement to wiper function.
replaced them for new ones. Still no perceivable improvement.
lubricating the rack made a slight improvement to speed though. Used a mix of moly grease & active-8 (chlorinate paraffin.)
the system is very old school, with old school performance
Edit, we like old school....and can only manage old school performance, mostly!

              Julian.
It worked well removing the lost travel for me, but general lubrication of the motor, and a new set of brushes made the biggest improvement.
