    Brake Drums

Has anyone ever heard of their being two different types of brake drum - one with raised lettering the other without and so there being a small difference on the rear track width of the car?
I can’t imagine even if there were raised lettering it would be more than 1mm but any thoughts...?

    Cheers

What determines the track, in this case, is where the wheel sits against the machined centre of the drum. Any raised lettering, which is on the OE drums, is near the outside radius of the drum, so nowhere near any of the mating surfaces. Sounds like bar-room gossip to me..........

These pictures are nabbed from the interweb and show the raised lettering on an OE drum and the engraved lettering of an aftermarket item.

You have clarified it for me exactly how I thought it would be Dave - funny how these ideas get spun but it was via a mate who'd had a conversation with an aftermarket wheel supplier, none of our normal ones though.

slight cross wires, I was told the raised lettering was on the hub, but this would mean 2 different brake drums if the hub protrusion was different.
