    Antifreeze Spec

    Hi All,
Can anyone help me with some advice. I have a 73 MK2 manual, It has come to the time where I need to flush out the water works and replace the antifreeze. I read that I need to put antifreeze in that conforms to BS3151 and BS3152, I asked a friend to pick me up some on his way home from work but it is BS6580. Is this the modern day equivalent and is ok to use or must I find some BS3151 or BS3152
    Cheers

Decent quality Blue glycol, I wouldn’t fret about the numbers. BS3151 was the 1959 standard 6580 was the 1992 standard. Bluecol is good

Stags were developed to use ethylene glycol.
No need to use anything else.

It's preferable to use what was in there before to avoid compatability problems. What colour was the coolant that was in there? If it's pink or orange, it's indicating an "OAT"-type - more modern and reckoned to last 5yrs or so. However, there are folk who've reported that it doesn't mix well with the ethylene glycol type (typically blue or green), forming a jelly. The system needs a thorough drain and flush to change between the two types..
White 1976 build ("Mk2") only a few mods

Ticket I use Penrite 350000 not the premix. I think you’ll find it works very well
