my point entirely Richard, he reckons it’s had a lot of work done but the interior, engine bay etc look like they’ve not seen any care at all in many years

It certainly appears to be a little bit 'out there'; and a little negotiation may be called for. Makes me appreciate mine, and provides reassurance of strong valuations. A little patina goes a long way it seems.

Without seeing the car it seems a fair starting price I have never understood why Stag owners seem to value their cars so little they will sell them at giveaway prices. A Stag with solid metalwork is worth a lot -ask anyone who has had to rebuild a rotting body.

I am with you on this Alan, to have a car professionally restored would cost way more, so if someone else has taken the hit and the work has been done properly, I might be inclined to say that this car might be somewhat of a bargain. Obviously not seen it and certain have no commercial interest. If it were a patchwork quilt I might be inclined to agree with OP but I doubt that OP has seen it either.

Anyway like you say I have no idea why some SOC members seem intent on driving prices down.

I must admit that I really do dislike those burr walnut dashes! No disrespect to anyone who has one after all it is their car. just not for me. And the seats need refoaming but I cannot see the issue really

Unfortunately, my experience is that many ‘professional restorations’ are less than adequate so I would always take a fine-tooth comb, and a torch!

The particular Stag I mentioned in my 1st post was/has been for sale by the same dealer since July 2019...

One might ask why if on the face of it is is such a good deal...
