Mk1 vs Mk2 Manifold

Morning All

I have a 71 mk1 it has the original engine with mk1 manifold. I was wondering if changing to a mk2 manifold with the thermostat foot bypass shut off is worth doing. Obviously the mk1 allows some of the water to bypass radiator. My thought is that as the cooling system is quite marginal if I was taking the inlet off anyway, would I be better fitting a mk2 when I put it back?

I did that. but I think if u later go for an external pump. the by pass gets blocked off. so save it and u can reuse it. I'm in California and didn't want to take chances
