If you have the skills to do this, Remove the tank, thoroughly wash it out with water and allow to dry. Small holes can be soldered. If welding or brazing is needed fill with water as full as possible before attempting repair.

radiator repair company's used to do this, but get it steamed out and either solder patches on or brazed on, wheeler dealers used a chap who only does tank repairs if you can locate him if not doing it yourself

Thanks for your replies, i have seen someone using a plumbers solder stick and flux to totally cover the pinholes and also another rigging their petrol tank up to a running car exhaust to de-fume the tank. Has anyone got any experiance of these methods.

The fire department at Longbridge used to run fumes through a tank for a couple of hours before welding fitting in began. don’t know if modern fumes work though!!

I 'repaired' mine by fibreglass resin and sloshed some tank sealer around over 30 years ago.
I do actually have a good tank now but never fitted it, as my 'repair' has held up!

I repaired pin holes using a special resin advertised to do the job. It fixed that area but the tank then leaked from new pin holes resulting in a garage flooded with petrol when we were away on holiday. A proper professional tank repair would have cost about the same as a new tank so I went that route.
