Finally got the Stag back together following a complete refurbishment and the Fuel Warning Light is on continuously. Checked the three connections on the tank sender unit and they are good. When you pull the right hand connector off the fuel warning light goes off. Tank is full of fuel and the gauge shows 3/4 full (it was never very accurate). We had the fuel tank out to repaint but didn't check or remove the fuel tank sender unit and float. Any suggestions? If the suggestion is to replace the sender unit and float, is there a special tool you can buy to turn and remove the Locking Ring as no doubt that will be tight? Thanks

Thanks to everyone for their comments. Checked wiring and all as it was before and finally received a new sender unit and float. Checked this and sure enough it worked fine. I was pleasantly surprised that the old unit came out easily and so the whole job took about 10 minutes. The fuel gauge still only shows just over half full when the tank is completely full but you get used to that

Yes, the Austin etc Mini. The part number seems to be JLM772. If you search for that on Ebay you will find a selection of them. I went for the cheapest as I expect they are all sourced from the same place.
Edit - If you Google Smiths JLM772 there are loads of them listed. many a bit cheaper than the Ebay onesLast edited by Paulfrazer; 2 December 2024, 22:17.

I would add a word of caution. The last fuel system related products I bought from eBay were fuel filters. They looked the same as ones from reputable suppliers, but much cheaper. The internals dissolved within a couple of months. Never again!Dave
