    lumenition or aldon ignitor

Having read many comments about how poor luminition reliability can be, can anyone say what they know or have heard of theAldon ignitor?

The trigger fits in distributor, no external module.

I was thinking of using one or at least carrying it as a backup.

I think most of it has been said before in previous threads.... Aldon/Pertonix Ignitor is very simple to install, and as you mention, fits entirely within the distributer cap.

I have had one on the Stag, and before that on a Herald, never had a problem. In both cases took 15 mins to fit, job done.

      Hi jbuckl,

Just been there and done that! After failure of the Lumenition kit in my Stag - have had problems with another Lumenition in an MG also - fitted an Aldon ignitor. Needed to provide a +12v supply as the +6v supply to the Stag's ballasted coil is not enough. This is covered in Aldon's instructions. What wasn't covered was the extent to which the ignition timing had to be reset. With the distibutor in the same position as when points were used, it was not possible to set 12 deg BTDC without removing the distributor and replacing it one tooth round on the drive gear.

      FWIW

Peter, I'm a little surprised. I've just fitted a petronix system and I've not had to adjust my ignition timing at all. Terry

my timing was 12 degrees out when I fitted mine! It was the first time I had ever had to mess with ignition timing on any car!!

12 deg out sounds about the same as mine. I wonder if Aldon and Pertronix ARE EXACTLY the same?

Mine was the Pertronics version so was Terry's which was fine, I guess it is down to manufacturing, although 12 degrees is a lot!

They are, Aldon sell under licence from Pertronix, only difference is the box.

I bought a Pertronix from Retro Rockets. As has been said, 15 mins to fit and completely hidden. Remember to use both base plates supplied though...
