Hi all
Further to my continuing investigations into why I find oil/fuel in the V, I ran my hand along the join between the offside carb and the pedestal and found it wet with fuel. The float bowl is not wet and it would likely defy gravity for it to jump the gap between the bowl and the pedestal block.
I took the carbs off and tightened the 4 nuts on the pedestal, but they were not loose. I decided to take off the carb and found that the opening where the spacer block fits appears to either have been poorly widened or poorly made. This makes the opening non-circular and created an edge on the gasket where I think the fuel made its way out.
Luckily I had another pedestal that did not have this widening and have now swapped it over, but ran out of light to test the car for any length of time (it does start).
Has anyone seen this before? Is it someone trying to home-port the pedestal to increase fuel & air to the engine or was it just poorly made?
Thanks
Jeff
