Door skin and door frame painting

Does anyone have advice on painting the internal surfaces of the door frames and skins. I have rebuilt the door frames with new SOCTFL bottom repair sections and cut out any other rusty bits and replaced with new home fabricated plates. I now need to fit the SOCTFL door skins but they are bare metal so I am assuming to paint the inside surfaces with POR15, any thoughts?

POR is not great for clean bare metal, it needs some roughness really. Best bet is some epoxy primer, there are rattle cans of 2pack epoxy available, they would be great. I would follow that up with some topcoat.

Thanks Terry for your kind advice. The existing skins I took off seem to have had a black rubberised paint on the inside surface & the internal side of the door frame itself is just in red oxide primer, I don't know if this was original factory finish or if the doors have been re-skinned by a previous owner. I do have cold galvanised spray paint which is suitable for bare metal surfaces so that could be a possibility. The outer edge of the door frame where the door card fixes is finished in white and will be addressed when the car is resprayed. I want to finish off the unseen areas to prevent rust for as long as possible but I'm not entirely convinced they need topcoating.

        OK

Yes galvanising spray is better that POR. The factory finish on new panels is not usually great so check, it may be ok but I would still seal it. I only mentioned the topcoat because some primers are porous, moisture will wick through them so they need a sealer. A rattle can of any colour would suffice to seal it..

Thanks again Terry, I didn't know some primers were porous so I'll go down the epoxy primer and topcoat route. Much appreciated advice!

No problem, make sure you paint/seal the lips of the frame as well, before you fit the skin, anything to avoid bare metal is worth the time.
