    BW 35 Propshaft removal

    Hi guys,

I'm changing my prop at the weekend (yaaaaaaaaaay). Am I right in saying that I should be able to remove the prop without taking the exhausts off? I heard there is a knack to it but if you get it right you can get the prop off.

It is possible. I've done it twice.
You've got to loosen the main silencers and the connection between them.
I used a homemade tool to widen the gap.
Then you can let down the propshaft between the silencers.

That looks a great piece of kit. I need to take my propshaft off again, and the worst part of the job was taking the exhaust off.I think I’ll fashion something with the welder.

This doesn;'t widen the gap at the diff end so did you have to take the exhaust off at the prop end?

I made a similar tool a couple of days back from a mini suspension cone removal tool I had (I no longer have the mini). It does widen the gap more at the gearbox end, but it does open the gap towards the diff. You only need a little bit more room and the propshaft can get between the silencers.

Having taken the prop off about 3 months ago, removing the exhaust. Then taking it off a couple of days back using the new tool, I reckon I saved myself a good couple of hours. Also I did it with far fewer swear words!

Glad it worked ok Swifty, I didn't have any trouble getting the prop off Roy, yes it tight at the diff end but it will come out as Swifty has shown, saves a lot of grief Simples
