    Extension housing bearing(134466)

Debating whether to get the more expensive version or stick with a regular one. I don't drive the car much < 1000 a year.
The only reason why I need to change it is because the diff seal is leaking. I changed the diff seal 20 years back, but not the bearing. Do the cheaper bearings fail with relatively low mileage?

Also I recall the diff seal used to be leather. I have a Unipart one in my stash. Are the after market ones OK?

Dare I say it but a degree of common sense is required here Sujit.

Google the bearing type rather than the part number. The type is actually stamped onto anything half decent RLS7-2RS you will find that the bearing suppliers provide two options. The first wholesale is £30something per unit the other is sub £10/something per unit, the more expensive option is manufactured to standards. The cheaper item is made to a "price" someplace else and sold by every parts supplier that I used for stag parts. guess which unit lasted less that 1k miles for me......

Has one parts supplier now listed the proper bearing that is not made from cheese?

Is the £20 price difference worth you dropping the diff annually to replace it?

my findings are in this vid ... https://youtu.be/c-N21WSpVBE

        Hi Richard,
LDParts has a sub $10 one he sells. I'm sure he wont sell rubbish's parts. He carried the more expensive part too.

I'm with Richard. When I replaced mine ( totally destroyed, only inner and outer races left). I replaced with an SKF RLS7-2RS, $80NZ.

My car gets considerably more than 1,000 miles a year but I’d never fit the cheaper un-known bearings anywhere. New, branded bearings are available so why not use them? As they say, buy cheap, buy twice.....

              Hi Richard

I watched your vid - excellent thanks. I can't seem to find a source for the RLS7 you mention above and in the video. LD is out of stock, but I found this one:

              https://www.bearingboys.co.uk/Imperi...29mm--136295-p

However it is labelled RLS7- 2RS1. Do you happen to know what the 1 designates and if it is suitable?

              Thanks
              Jeff

All this talk about diff extension housings has reminded me that I have a complete reinforced and powder-coated unit on my shelf that I picked up from LD Parts in 2016 and not got around to fitting. It is complete with a quill shaft that has been fitted with a Speedi-sleeve and a new RHP bearing,
My car was suffering from drive-line vibration and I thought it might be the extension housing I had reinforced and powder-coated locally was the cause, but it turned out to be something else......14B3C3F6-8B27-474C-88B0-024BC5E586B6.jpeg

                  Jeff,

Sorting through some spares today and I have found a Genuine RHP bearing that I removed from a quill shaft extension housing. It has done approx 1,000 miles and is in perfect nick. Interested?

                        Hi Jeff

Not sure on that, contact the company they may be able to advise.

This is the bearing that I fitted last time, wanted to see how long it lasted
