    Main Light Switch

MK11 Stag, 76. Can anyone provide advice to help remove the main light switch from its plastic knob. I want to follow the excellent article on it overhaul, but that misses out on this special bit!

          Hi,
I have a Mk I but there is no allen screw in my light switch.
It has a spring loaded lug.
So, you just use a drill bit (or similar) to push into the hole and compress the lug, whilst gently withdrawing the knob,
          Den

If you look at the technical note you will see on a couple of pics that the hex shaft where the Bakelite knob fits onto has a small spring loaded ballbearing. The knob has a hole and, when pushed onto the shaft, that spring loaded ball jumps into the hole to secure the knob. The "drill" just refers to a piece of stiff wire or similar which you insert into said hole. Then push down the spring loaded ball and simultaneously pull off the Bakelite knob.

When you re-assemble, make sure that the hole aligns with the hex surface where the spring-loaded ball is, otherwise the knob won't be retained on the shaft.

I seem to recall that the original Choke knob is retained in the same way.

The hole is already drilled and is what the lug locates into.
I managed to find a picture of my switch before i cleaned it up.
                  see attached.

Ahha. Thanks very much, all of you! I have the hole located and have had the choke cable knob off when the dash got rebuilt. If this is the same, its just a case of persuasion!
