    Front suspension bushes

So I've bought the Rimmer bros front suspension kit, but REALLY want to make sure I get everything in the right place (as I can't find anywhere that says this bush in this location!)

I've made a handy little cheat sheet, but can you kind gentlemen and ladies please confirm I've got it right?

    Thank you kindly!!

How on Earth does one get the bushes on the anti roll bar?? Do you have to thread them over the flat flange and al the way into position???

Dunno with those rubber ones, but the polybush version (mine) have a split in them.

Yes you have to feed them all the way along. Clean the roll bar off and then add a bit of lubricant - I use a bit of soapy water - they will then slip on reasonably easily. Oil works OK but oil and rubber are not always a good mix long term.

One other thing to note is the orientation of the drag link rubbers. Some people fit them the wrong way round because that is the way they look as though they should go !! So take care and make sure you get them the right way round.

I saved an email from Tony Hart from another forum that he was on. He said the rubber bushes last maybe 5 years. He would use poly bushes, at the time made in Australia. Supply was an issue and he made his own locally in UK. I've had my bushes in for 20 years. The car sails like a boat. but I don't recall it behaving any different when first replaced. I'm planning to replace with poly this year. I don't use the car much.

Buy a Teflon Pool Lube. You can find it at pool supplies, hardware store or Amazon. It's used for pool equipment o-rings. Lube that bar and bush up and get stroking. You may want to shut the blinds so your neighbors can't see.

I haven’t been convinced by polybushes. Mostly too firm for a stag. Hate the quick deterioration of rubber bushes currently offered though. Using a mixture of both at the moment.
4x trailing arm bushes are easier to fit in poly than the rubber ones. Just use silicone grease for assistance with fitting.
stainless tubes & bolts help prevent future seizures.
have managed to drill out some old bushes in situ to speed up the job, without complete removal of the parts.

OK so the story so far....

                  The most difficult bits were:
                  1) Getting the ball joints out of the vertical link, had to borrow a ball joint remover tool and get new rubber gaiters,
                  2) Getting to the nuts on the end of the radius arms (Had to take off my exhaust manifold and lower it to get access)
                  3) Getting the old suspension arm bushes out and the new ones in (Needed hydraulic press down at the garage!)

BUT... it's all going well so far, even threading the anti roll bar mount bushes on wasn't too difficult. Here are some pics for you to see the state of my old bushes!

Oh and haven't attempted the steering rack to crossmember bushes yet... might try that tomorrow if I have time!

Water based, wont damage rubber but the chemist looks at you funny when you buy them to "install my windscreen" Ohhh err...
