Rad top hose - Poor shape

This was something that I noticed when refitting the rad, the shape of the top hose is pretty poor and approaches the rad at the wrong angle needing more of a bend. I had two new hoses and the second one was a little shorter that made matters worse.

In the first picture you can see it fitted and hopefully see the bends are mis-shaping the pipe a little.

I noticed in the post about an eBay Stag earlier today that the pictures of that engine the top hose looked to be a much better design. Anyone else found this?

Two options from sellers that can be relied upon to supply a quality item.

Looks a bit like the inlet on the rad is the wrong angle, is it a recon, if so they have put it back on at the wrong angle.

I noticed these had got worse recently too. Quite easily improved by trimming but still not clearance all around.

You might have a point there, I did just have it worked on but the pictures I had taken before it went in show they didn't alter the top connection angle. Seems pretty clear the angle is different, points more to the rad than away from it, well spotted. Assume it is a replacement from before I got it, it fits but I had ti use the longer of the two top hoses I had.

Will have to decide if I leave it or get it altered......

              Roy.
The radiator inlet is definitely at the wrong angle, a problem I have seen before. It is something that you would be justified in asking to have put right, but perhaps you could fit one of those strong flexible rubber hoses for the time being. They come in lengths that you cut to suit the job in hand..

Yes, think I'll speak to the rad company I used, they didn't cause the issue, I looked back on pictures and you can clearly see it was that angle when I gave it to them. But should be an easy fix for them, just a shame I have it all fitted back in, but I know it will bug me.

The thermostat end does look long before the first bend.

The inlet should point towards the thermostat housing approximately (mine does & so does another I looked at).

So your rad is definately wrong.

Thanks all for the feedback, I'm dropping it off to the rad company to alter the top connection, I can see from original pictures it was at the wrong angle before I gave it to them, pain really as they could have corrected it all in one go. Anyway, he has another 2 Stag rads in at the moment so something to compare against.
I did think about leaving it, I'd not filled with water, in my excitment to fit it back and get the new expansion tank measured and fitted I'd forgotten to manually time the electronic ignition. There was just enough space to get a spanner on the pully, but with the rad out now there is no chance of damaging it.

Why not ask them about installing fittings for the header tank? Ideal opportunity.

Excellent idea Terry. Other methods (hose tapping) are always a bit of a compromise.

Already done, I had a 20mm inlet added half way down the rad an 8mm air bleed-off into the top connector, all both on that side of the rad. That was the annoying part as I had the work done and didn't spot the angle of the top connector until fitting it back in. Using a Volvo header tank, you can see this in the original post picture, currently suspended with string until I make up the bracket. Low warning sensor to connect up later.

Ahh.. I didn’t spot them on the picture.. I actually managed to do them myself using PEX connectors which gave a nice flange to help me get a good joint.. then when I sent it off to the rad shop for a recore so they were tested along with that, which made me feel better!
