Gearbox noises

Anyone written a fault finding manual of what noises a gearbox makes when something is not right? I'm getting noises when shifting in and out of third, but not all the time. All gears shift well.

The weak point in the gearbox appears to be the needle rollers wear through the hardening on the layshaft first. Did on mine.
