    Oil pressure gauges

Afternoon chaps. Thanks to all for the gauge cleaning tips you gave me in my last post it has been truly helpful .It also came to me that i would like to fit an oil pressure gauge whilst the dash is out but which type, electronic or mechanical. I'm veering towards the electronic type as it might be easier to install. I realise that a new sender unit for the electronic type would be needed so i would like to know what thread/size is has to be to go into the block. Any suggestions and info would be greatly received.
    Cheers Mike

    Hi Mike,

I have the combined oil and temperature capillary type as in the MGB - it's 100% reliable as there is no electronic element to it to give odd read outs plus it means you only need to replace the current electronic temperature gauge.
IMHO I would not bother with anything else..
MGB Hive is where i got mine (around 15 years ago) which is a Smiths one..

    Cheers

    Mike

Agree with above, dual guage with capilary temperature. Mine has also been in for nearly 15 years.
Does meen you have to add an adapter to the water tranfer housing though.

Mine is also a duel with capiliary temp sensor and mechanical oil pressure gauge - similar to this, although mine has actual temperature markings in degrees Celsius https://www.jamespaddock.co.uk/oil-w...ieceadaptors-2 . Looks like, but am not totally sure if this kit has all the necessary accessories. With mine, there's an adaptor piece that fits in the Temp sensor threaded hole in the block to accommodate the capiliary bulb, which is a bit bigger than the old electrical one. On the Oil Pressure side, there's an adaptor that allows retention of the Oil Press warning light.
White 1976 build ("Mk2") only a few mods

Mine is a single full face Smiths 2" capillary gauge been in the car for over 20 yrs. It is mounted on a tee piece so to retain the low pressure light.

My oil gauge is a smith’s one from a TR6 which matches the rest of the mk2 dials needle from the bottom

so is mine from a TR6, I also moved battery guage and sighted it above temp gauge so a quick look takes in both guages. put clock where ash tray used to be.

Exactly the same setup as me. Also installed some lighting for heater controls.

Very interesting about the gauges that came from a TR6 because i want the needle facing the right up. My clock isn't working but a man i know reckons he can fix it for me so i think it will be going into the air vent hole.
Can you tell me how and what you used to light up the heater controls please.
                    cheers Mike.

As suggested above I used a some LEDs on a strip. You can buy these on a reel and cut and solder them to required length.
i glued them to the back of the plastic strip that secures the small piece of veneer in front of the gear lever. Then stick a small strip of opaque/frosted acrylic over the top. Finally I blacked out the centre section as they were too bright! You can connect the LEDs to the power supply for the gear selector lamp.
