Hi Will,
Suspected mine last year but turned out to be the starter.
Book says if it's a 35 box then easy from under the car but if it's the 65, the box has to be dropped. Changing the switch looks easy and straightforward.
I didn't know there was a panel as Ian says.
Jeff.I only do what the voices in my wife’s head tell me to do!

Jeff.
It is an oblong panel, held in place with 4 x self-tappers. Just about level with the passenger's right foot, on the vertical part of the transmission tunnel. Part 627051 in this diagram.

Sorry Jeff, t'otherway round, on the 65 it's on the side of the box and you can get at it from underneath without disturbing anything, on the 35, it's on top of the box and you get at it through said panel, on that one point the manual is wrong. It won't be a loose wire or it wouldn't work at all. It doubles as the reversing light switch, so there are four wires, gon't get 'em mixed upMartin.

Will,
You can get at it from underneath easiet (knowing you have decent facilities). I'm afraid Martin's wrong, the 35 switch is on the left hand side, lower front. It has four wires, two each for inhibitor and reverse light and your problem won't be just a loose wire cos then it would have the same effect in neutral. It could have unscrewed itself slightly so make sure it's tight and then ping me a note and I'll dig out the switch off that white car you sold me and get it to you somehow. New switches are silly money.
