    Radiator Air Flow

Hi all, Could someone help with some advice please. I have read that to help with the air flow going through the radiator it is a good idea to stop some of the air flow going into the large hole in the near side wing. Has anyone else done this and if so how did you do it, is there a template for the blanking plate to do this
    Cheers Rick

Some people fit a shroud, available from stag Webber. Some people fit a tr6 spoiler. Some people fit sponge rubber at the gap between the radiator vertical gaps. Some people fit an electric fan.
all of the above help with additional air flow through the rad.
extra core tubes don’t help with airflow, they restrict it.
never heard of a wing blanking plate.

There are two large (1.1/2 inch?) holes in the n/side panel which can be blanked with suitable grommets. The gaps between the radiator and adjoining panels can be reduced by fitting suitable rubber mouldings. Other than that, there should be no large gaps left to blank off.

This is similar to what I have fitted to the radiator panels: https://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/produ...d-flap-push-on

I fitted the grommets and rubber flap around the rad as mentioned above. Didn’t see a noticeable difference in the running temperature but it has reduced the number of squashed flies on the inner wings! There is some info on closing off the airflow through the wings here:-

It's not always getting the air into the rad, if the airflow is restricted by the air exiting the engine bay the cool air can't get in. Thei is a common problem on kit cars with even tighter engine bays than the stag. Try a run with the back of the bonnet open, you will see a difference. Bonnet vents helped on my kit car, but although I like the look of louvre's I don't think I will go that far, but ceramic coated headers and a big ally rad keep my engine bay and interior noticeably cooler

Not sure what your objective is. If trying to get more air through the front of the radiator because the temperature needle moves off the centre position in hot weather, heavy slow traffic etc then the Revotec electric fan will help. If it’s because on a hot day the needle moves uncomfortably close to the red, then a spoiler is a help.

in my own case, I noticed last summer the needle moved to the right - something it had never done before. So I invested in an LD part « secret spoiler ». This works well at above 60 or so mph ensuring the maximum air flows through the radiator. If in traffic my electronic fan kicks in and does a good job. It also kicks in when the engine is switched off after a run out. I have set it to come on about 55degrees C (top hose measurement) which some may argue is too low.

i should add that since I had the BW65 auto box replaced with the Tate & Lewis ZF4 speed box, thé engine is working with fewer revs and so far this year the temperature needle is bang on where it should be.

Rick - just found the link to LD parts - http://www.ldpart.co.uk/shop/shop.ph...3&sid=sidd6fb2
