Windscreen Chip

On the M25this morning and nearly jumped outof my skin when somethinghit the windscreen with a loud bang. Results below . But I am insured . From passed threads it seems replacing the windscreen is a pig of a job and should not be attempted by your average window replacement technician. ButI'd rather not have the windscreen taken out if it's repairable. The chip issmaller than a £2 coin. What do you think?

An insured repair shoud be vertually invisible, if you're not happy with the results however would you have the option to then change the screen?

They won't repair a screen if the damage is the drivers main viewing area.
Changing the screen is not too bad a job,worst part is fitting the trim.

There must be a Stag expert within reach of you who has a tame expert, Autoglas replaced mine, with a new rubber that I supplied,and it leaked badly from day 2, they should have sealed the frame up before installing but didn't, only sealing the outside, then denied doing anything wrong, "Must be distorted mate". I got it re-done for £50 and it was done properly. Martin.

Thanks. I think they will repair the chipif it's in the drivers vision but only if the diameteris less than 10mm. This chip is bigger than 10mm so looks likeI'll be gettingnew windscreen. Don't mind a new windscreen but just don't want a bodged job. I might enquire about Old School Windscreens which I read about earlier. As long as the insurance (Lancaster) don't force me down a particular supplier.

Has anyone attempted a DIY windscreen repir kit?
On retrieving my screen from deep storage in the attic, I found to my dismay the tinyest of impact mark with a bearly decernable crack. I'm just open for suggestions and wondered what I should do, the car is not insured yet, do I wait untill it is, or get it repaired now while it's still out of the frame. I saw this on youtube and wondered if..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GxDR2Cg3tE.:? I suppose a professional repair is more likely to be successful, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

I'd give it a go - what have you got to lose? I know that Halfords sell the repair kits.
