    Seat belts.....

I have a couple of seat belt issues, one a bit more serious than the other.

Firstly the seatbelt warning light keeps flickering on. If I push or pull up on the tongue the light goes off, so I am guessing there is a contact problem in the binnacle. Is it possible to do anything about this, or just spray some light oil in an see if that helps?

The more serious problem is the inertia reel on FSP belt does not lock when pulled sharply. My belts are original and I would like to keep the set up as it is. Is it possible to get the inertia reel repaired or do I need to replace? If it needs replacing I would be tempted to get new webbing etc on both, does anyone know a good company who can refurbish the belts?

    Cheers,

    Woody

    Hello Woody,

I fitted some new seatbelts recently. I believe mine were the original, almost 50 year old retraction units & webbing, and had become a bit recalcitrant recently. I bought the new ones from FDTS near Woking, and I'm very pleased with both product and fast service. I don't normally go for bling, but decided on dark red webbing, which was a close match to my Carmine paintwork. Black webbing in an all black interior was a bit gloomy. For peace of mind, and remember these are just as important safety-wise as good brakes or tyres, I replaced everything with new; bolts, spacers, buckles etc., and the total cost delivered was about £200.

Those seat belts are not meant to lock when you pull them, like modern ones. They are called Inertia belts, and rely on braking/accelerating to activate them. Try breaking sharply while wearing one and you will feel it lock. Or park on a very steep slope!

thanks for the replies, gives me something to work on.
The drivers belt locks when given a sharp tug, but will do some experiments with the passenger belt too. Amy excuse to go for a bit of a whizz!

If it comes to new belts, I really want to keep it as original as possible, I love the centre binnacle with white release buckles. But do have a hankering for either light blue webbing to go with the shadow blue interior or maybe yellow webbing to compliment the Sapphire blue paint. a little bit of being can't hurt, surely??

White release buttons, not buckles. Doh!

I had a problem with these.
Messed about with collecting more spares that all had issues.
sent the best pair off to ‘safety belt services’ Bedford?
came back after a week like new. Reasonably priced too.

warning light can be contacts in buckle issue or passenger seat pressure pad circuit contacts

If you spray anything into the binnacle I would try electrical contact cleaner.might be worth checking the reel is perfectly vertical as that will cause retraction a d operation issues
