What is the correct coil for a stag fitted with standard Optronic Lumenition and original engine, all the supplier sites list different coils I am completely confused! Please help.

Most modern Lucas stuff is rubbish. Many on here have gone for a Bosch Red coil, part number 0221119030. Available from Burton Power, Opie Oils or elsewhere.

The electronic ignition does not require a special coil. You still use the standard Ballast Resistor type as fitted to all Stags, but get a good one from a good supplier as there is loads of rubbish about.

Fited one of the Bosch coils a while back, works perfectly, more so than the 3 previous (non Bosch) ones ever did.Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.Comment

What about the Flamethrower, I had it on my red Stag with Luminition and 10mm leads.

Recently used a vixen dry coil. Seemed to improve starting.There are 2 secrets to staying on top :- 1. Don't give everything away.

+ 1 for Bosch red with lumenition and ballast in tact. long story.
if u have the ballast in tact and plan to stick with the old classic lumenition. don't got for a flame thrower. I bought a 1.5 ohm one and the document says to remove the ballast. lumenition needs a combined resistance of 3 ohms. I went and bought a 3 ohm first thinking I would do away with the ballast. the package says 3 ohm ones are not recommended for 8 cylinder cars.

I have Pertronix on Stag no. 2 with a 1.5 ohm pertronix coil and no ballast.
Buy the ignitor II, 9LU-181A. and not the LU-181A the lter part no. is an older version.

The igniter one can get fied if the ignition is left on. that's why they came out with the 2. here in USA they area bout 100$ ish.Comment
