    Mk2 fitted with a Mk1 viscous coupling?

So the fan VC has failed on my 1977 Stag, it spins freely and feels loose with a bit of a vibration if you blip the throttle.

I was able to drop into Tony White to souce a replacement (really helpful & thanks today) and discovered the Mk2 VC he had where not like the one I had fitted. Turns out mine is the earlier Mk1 type.

The car is a Mk2, the engine as far as I can tell with the Mk2 airbox etc is as well. But puzzed why a Mk1 VC would have been fitted in place of a Mk2 one as they are not direct swaps with different fans.

    Anyone else had this?

Probably someone along the line replaced it with a used item..

The PS pulley is different mk1to mk2 so check that as well..

I've taken some pictures of what it fitted at the moment.
I have a MK 2 VC and the adapter plus a MK 2 fan. What I tried to see is if the power steering pully had a nose on it, which to me looks like it has, so confused now if the adapter is needed between the MK 2 VC and the power steering pully.

This is the one fitted taken when I was fitting the pump kit, and didn't know the VC was shot.

OK, after some searching online I think I've realised my mistake, I've got these round the wrong way, mine is fitted with a MK 2 VC as shown in the above pictures. Bolts are used to secure the fan, pully nose is longer. But please correct me if I'm wrong.

The replacement VC and fan I have below are actually MK 1, and maybe the only working Mk 1 VC there is..... and it won't fit mine.

Got the old VC removed today, glad I had an impact wrench for the centre bolt as even with the car in gear and handbrake on it wasn't going to come off without a fight.
Surprised that the section the VC bolts onto was so short.

While off I flushed the engine, I'd only refilled a couple of weeks back with clean water to circuate before a flush, my thanks to Singapore Stag for the tip about using a ty rap to clear out the drain worked a treat on the power steering pump side, and yes got soaked...!

The starter motor side looked and felt like a blind hole, solid with muck, needed a screwdriver to break it up, got soaked again...! And the second tip of disconnecting the battery was good as well as the tools were very close to the terminals on the back of the starter.

I have a quick disconnect on the battery post. any thing I do on the stag I disconnect that first. The starter motor has that thick wire directly from the battery. Generates a nice spark when touched to body or engine

I've just this minute listed it on eBay, selling the fan and VC seperate as it's not the right one for my car being a MK2 - 124717185865

Can't see whats going on there but you should be using the outside pulleys

It was the amount of the shaft that was showing.in front of the pully, I kind of expected it to extend further into the VC. I've fitted the new one, with the centrr bolt it's not going anywhere, but if anyone can confirm the shaft length ix correct I'd appreciate it.
