    Lowering Kit

Ive been thinking of lowering my Stag and asadvised by some of the guys on this forum Ive contacted the recommended suppliers of the kits. Kit cost is around £220 including the camber correction rear shackles. I can however get the 1 inch lower springs from Paddocks for about £20 each which leaves nearly £120 for the camber brackets. so my questions are :-

    1) Do the kits contain more than the springs and camber brackets?

    2) Can I buy the camber brackets separately?

3)Are 1 inch lower springs the lowest springs available?

    4) Got aclunk on the front nearside when going over speed bumps etc any ideas what may be causing this, cant see anything obvious but is it worth rebuilding and replacing the strut insert whilst fitting the lower springs in case thats what causing the clunk?

    Cheers

    Hi Dave,

    1) The kit is just the springs and camber brackets.

    2) You can purchase camber brackets seperately.

    3) Not sure on that one.

As for the knock, bottom ball joint, as a suggestion.

      Hi Dave

Okay - bit of an 'expert' in this area now... :?

      1) Do the kits contain more than the springs and camber brackets?

Not usually. You may want to consider polyeurethane spring seats though (but make sure they are not too thick)..

      2) Can I buy the camber brackets separately?

Yes - but don't. I have a pair you can have. Having said that if you want to set the rear cambers exactly (about -1.5 deg) you might want to buy adjustables from Monarch. Mine are running about -0.5 deg which are okay.

3)Are 1 inch lower springs the lowest springs available?

Not sure. Do you really want to look like your dragging your ar*e along the floor?
Don't forget, there are fixed rate and progressive rate springs. I have progressive on mine and they do give a comfortable ride under normal driving conditions.

      4) Got aclunk on the front nearside when going over speed bumps etc any ideas what may be causing this, cant see anything obvious but is it worth rebuilding and replacing the strut insert whilst fitting the lower springs in case thats what causing the clunk?

Its likely to be the strut insert, if it's not doing it when braking (which would be drag strut). Stick to standard struts or SPAX. Konis are good (bit more expensive). Forget the rest.

      IMHO.

        Hi Dave,

I've just fitted the Tony Hart progressive rate loweredspringsto my car, It is now 1"lower all round. The ride is now different to the original springs. It drives like a more modern car, with a lot less body roll, and more firm.I wasn't sure that I liked it at first, however after a few more"ks" and lots more corners I'mpleased with the results.

I do have to be careful over speed humps now though!

I also have Koni shocks, urethane bushes, Datsun half shafts and 205/70 tyres on standard wheels Our roads are not quite as well "manicured" as those in the UK so you may notice less difference to the ride in your car!

        regards,

        Raoul

Thanks for all the info guys, Im currently running on 195x60 profile tyres on Minilite reps which makes the gap between the tyre and arch look quite large. Running on the 60s has corrected my speedo error though after the change from auto to manual.

Tonys kits state progressive springs with 1.25 inchshorter spring length which should be plenty, not sure about Chris Whitor , guess I will need to ask, unless anyone on here knows. Im assuming the Paddocks springs are not progressive as they seem loads cheaper at about £20 a spring.

Im gonna stick with standard inserts etc for the time being as the missis has already commented on the list of Stag related bills that are hitting the bank.

Chris thanks for the offer of the camber brackets I will PM you later.

Chris/Rauol do you have any side on pics of your cars and Chris where did you buy your springs from?

          Cheers

            Dave

            A few pics of mine

I have HRS springs, with camber brackets, poly bushed and spax adjustbles all round, with 205/70 tyres on standard alloys, the hight between arch and center of the wheel is now13.5 inches, so lowered the car a inch all round

The ride is firm but not harsh and feels very tight when giving plenty of right foot

I'm well pleased with how it worked out

Thanks for the pics Stu, nice car. I like the sound of the progresive springs so the Hart springs are looking favorite. Will be sticking with standard shocks at the moment though. How do the camber brackets fit?

                    Dave

The camber brackets just replace the original ones fitted to the subframe two bolts and there off

This was taken after the new tyres and lowered springs, it now sits 1 1/2 inches lower all round.

                        regards,

Hi, When I lowered mine, about 1" all round, I noticed that the front rubber bump stops were very close to hitting the wishbone - less that 1/4" gap. This means that on an average UK road I'm probably hitting the bump stops most of the time.

Has anyone else noticed this? I've left it lowered because it looks and handles better, but I'd rather have a bigger gap. :?
