A Type Overdrive Solenoid Housing - Internal Part

Hi All,

I've just fitted a new solenoid to my A type overdrive and have noticed that the rubber stop that prevents the solenoid plunger hitting the opposite wall of the housing is perished. The stop is basically a rubber button with a stalk - a bit like a tall toadstool. This photo shows where the stop sits, the stalk goes into the hole shown by the arrow. The inset shows what my stop looks like now.

Having checked it doesn't seem that this stop is available as it was always supplied as an internal component with new housings, any ideas on where and how to source a suitable replacement? BTW the hole is not blind - i.e. it goes right through the housing wall.

Have you tried Overdrive Spares in Rugby?

Mark,

If all else fails try an internet search for "push in rubber feet" which will bring up many peg diameters. The top might need trimming down to suit.

I contacted Dave at Overdrive Spares today who was very helpful and knowledgeable. He advised me that the rubber stopper is no longer available so he taps the hole and puts a small bolt in to stop the plunger hitting the side of the housing. I managed to adapt his solution by cutting the stalk off my damaged stopper and inserting it in the hole so that it wasn't showing, then I put a short bolt in from the outside which forced the end of the stalk to protrude into the cavity of the housing. A small blob of threadlock was used for insurance.
