Veneer dash

Morning gents. Has anyone done or able to advise how to restore the timber dash..... in particular the best way to remove the old clear varnish? It’s coming off in pieces and I need to get it refreshed. Thanks in advance. Brett

The old coating can be removed using a hot air gun and scraper. As the coating heats up it softens and starts to bubble. There is a fine line between softening the coating and burning the veneer, so proceed with caution. Once the coating is off, the veneer can be given a light sanding before coating with a suitable varnish. Many people have recommended Rustins.
