Hi all, thanks for all the advice about my previous post concerning the stuttering problem under acceleration when the engine had warmed up. I've checked through everything again, bought a timing light and fitted a new fuel pump. I would say its now much much better but not quite 100 %. The only thing I haven't yet done is adjust the timing as my home made distributer adjusting tool (bent spanner) needs some tweeking but the timing is only about 3 degrees advanced, is this enough to cause a problem ? Cheers again. Jusdrew.

To check the advance, remove and plug the vacuum pipe and watch the timing mark as you rev the engine, it should move smoothly to the maximum (about 30deg for a mk1 20deg for a mk2 given your initial 3 degrees) also make sure it’s not hunting around. They are normally set in the 12-14 degree area so if all looks well try setting it a bit more advanced and see if it improves things.

** edit -- just saw Wilfs post.. I assumed it was at 3 degrees not 3 degrees more than "normal" so if that's the case don't advance it any more!!Last edited by trunt; 31 May 2021, 20:55.Terry Hunt, Wilmington Delaware
