    Right turn signal malady

Morning all from the States......Have triumphed (no pun intended) over the engine, moving radiator, re-installing gearbox, and getting down to the smaller things. New Speedo cable broke (seems too long from the "Brothers", but may be my routing of same. Last issue driving me crazy is an inoperable right turn signal....No glow at all. (1973 LHD USA Stag)

Wiring seems to be correct color, and solid. Receptacle is in good condition, and making contact. Tried several new bulbs, so suspect that isn't the issue. With car running and right signal selected, I have a steady voltage at that plug- Hazard also does not work at that site. All other bulbs/functions seem to work fine. Since the left turn signal works ok, I'm not guessing a flasher, unless it's possible that the flasher unit has different relays per sides (ie, the old heat expansion relay switch). Anyone have any ideas before I relegate myself to signal flares for right turns??

    Thanks!

You are correct about the flashers', they feed both. The strange thing here is that neither the turn or the hazard work, they actually feed the lights separately so the only place that is common to both is the wire between the dash panel plug and the "body junction in line plug" whatever that is! I'll think about that one! anyway maybe check the plugs from the dash panel, you would be looking for a green/white wire..

The indicator should still work but I suspect that without the turn lamps in circuit it may not...

Ohh.. Body junction in line plug..

Its the the plugs in the left and right footwell.. the wire runs from the dash to there and feeds a pin to the rear, its also doubled back to the front lamps.

So unlikely there as it has no pin involved to feed the front lamp, my bet is the dash panel plug..

Thanks Terry- i've got the dash loosened up from the speedo cable job, so I'll start there. Don't know where you get your info from, but I don't have anything to even remotely run down that level of specificity. Thanks a million! Steve

Mine had some switch pin number errors and the colours are not great but it’s nice for chasing wires.. so I cross refer to the ROM.. it’s all there.. plus having stripped my car and checking all looms.. If you get one make sure its the correct commission number, there is an early and late version for Mk2

Too many multi pin plugs & sockets in old car looms, Stag especially.
Most of them don't need to be there with such simple wiring.

Just went to Prospero's and ordered....Looks like a simpler picture than the ROM, and I have a very simple mind (as countless folks will testify :-)

Just make sure you get the correct one.. the first one they sent me was listed Mk2 but was for a mk1.5. So make sure it’s the full mk2 (if that’s what you have!) mine says

                from LE 20272

I would be interested to see whether they made the corrections I sent them..

And in keeping with my Stag, nothing should be easy. All leads from dash panel plug appear to be made/tight/clean. Plug connection clean and tight as well..... the treasure hunt continues!

Next stop are the plugs in the left (not right as I mistakenly said before!) footwell. But as I said I suspect that the green/white from the dash plug goes to the pin to feed the left rear loom but the front is also wired to the same pin. not 100% sure but I remember the same deal with another lamp.

while you are there at the dash you could ohm out the wire to the front or rear lamp.. also check the wires in the dash itself, or maybe apply 12v from the purple clock feed wire to the green/white pin in the loom side, it should light both front and rear lights..

I’ll pm my phone number.. call if you like.. I’m in Delaware

                    good luck!

                      Treasure hunt Complete!

Wiring looked too good to dig into the footwell straight away, so started at the rear of the car instead. Found, buried under back carpeted particle board that encompasses the lamp assemblies in the boot, a crummy job from a PO to add a trailer light control box and wiring. Only then noticed the holes where the hitch had been/filled before PO paint. Where the wires were piggybacked had come loose, cutting the right turn lamp out of the game.

A thousand thanks to Terry Hunt for his knowledge and accessibility , and to the all on the Forum for advice (and sometimes just a place to vent semi-intelligently......emphasis on the "semi")
