Is it me or is it blindingly obvious that headlamp legislation is wrong?
modern German suv lamps are dangerously bright for other oncoming traffic…. Dlrs, dipped & main & adaptive.
I have been sent an article from Holden and a video link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHtO06T9nvc. As of the 11th January 2021, the MOT law changed, and you are no longer able to put an LED bulb into a standard light unit. Are there alternatives which would be compliant? Was on the point of buying LED bulbs from Classic Car
Strikes me as legislation to blind all other road users but so long as you can see 4 miles down the road then stuff them. Dipped beam as bright and harsh as fullbeam is not the answer. Driving slower if you cannot see, is! Simples
Many modern cars have lights that are un-necessarily bright, especially the German softroad variety but also the large auto union saloon types. I find myself giving them a reminder flash thinking they must be on full beam onto to get the actual full beam in return which actually allows me to see a portal through time and space that it is so bright.
Must be another punishment from Germany to us naughty peoples in the UK.
Retrofit HID is quite an involved process with wash and self levelling is it not?
Stags and Range Rover Classics - I must be a loony

Having two modern cars, I note that some of the problems relate to the auto high beam function. On my Volvo XC40, LEDs are really good but the High beam comes on far too easily especially in the Mersey tunnel.
However, the BMW X3 (HID) has a really sophisticated system that puts up a variable geometry mask that can move to cover the car in front, and oncoming cars. It is more selective when it comes on and never comes on in the Mersey tunnel.
No. You won… the legislation, sophisticated technology or not, is allowing you to blind others.
Sure you think it’s good when your behind the wheel… it’s brilliant for you.
Fwiw Mercedes seem to be less blinding than Audi / Vag/ Bmw.
I tend to pull in and stop if I see a Volvo….only proceed when they have passed, hopefully safely. (Day or night)
Those intelligent LED's on my last Audi were incredible - one night I was driving through a slightly foggy forest and you could see the beam shape and position changing and actually encircling an oncoming car, and "leaning" into upcoming bends in the road - so it seems to be linked to the Navi too. Yippee, so many additional things to go wrong and which are unserviceable!
One problem is that modern cars, mainly SUVs, are so high off teh ground that anyone in a lower-slung car, like a Stag, can be easily dazzled by their headlights.

100% & at least one reason for the lamp problem ….
reinforcing the I’m all right jack syndrome.
