    Improving Standard Silencer exhaust boxes

    Hello Stag folks

Im always looking for subtle non visible improvements for my cars, performance and otherwise.

After watching a Youtube video of a guy modifying M3 silencer boxes
(the internals),he cut out a window from above so not visible from below, for obvious reasons, worked his magic and then welded up the flap.
The idea was to try and improve the lacklustre sound of the BMW V8,it was a greatb improvement
I thought Has anyone else had the Stag silencer apart ,whats inside ? and got any ideas for improving gas flow and maybe tweaking the sound.
Although a load boomy sound is definately not what Im after.
I heard straight through boxes and think is too load for me,although would be nice to hear from anyone with a straight through system if there was any perfomance gains,

    Thanks in anticipation

Tony Hart has already made straight through exhaust boxes,I made my own boxes for the Sprint, and will do the same for my Stag

          Thats interesting Dave,
          I was thinking wirewool,

Do you just pad this around the pipe that runs through the box?

Do you get a power increase with your unit over standard?

          Cheers

I used S/Steel scrubbing pads, the round donut type and threaded them over the internal pipes before fixing the end caps on. Spitfire 1500,twin rear mufflers. I haven't needed to touch the Stag.
              Cheers Ian A

I have a left and right system no link pipe with straight through boxes. Pipe work is 2 inch exits via 4 tailpipes. Stainless headers ceramic coated, feels like its improved performance, yes it loud especially on kick down (jag 4 speed), system built by vortex in grays.
not to everyones liking, but it is to mine.

Whilst I can full identify with this (only reason I bought the Aston was to hear the exhaust!) it unfortunately probably generates more Snowflakes who want us off the road for good

                        The answer isn't 42, it's 1/137

I met a guy who had a nice Ford Mustang Cobra here in US. It sounded very mean. He pressed a switch and it sounded meaner. He added some part in the exhaust system which basically opened a valve to let the gases to escape at a different part of the system. Have you thought about that?
