Ignition switch

Hi, Because I was not getting any ignition at the turn of the key, (dash lights come on only) the starter not doing anything. I decided to take off the ignition disessembled it and was cleaning the contacts. I dropped the swich and the internals spilt out. I dont know how they go back together again.....thre is a spring a ball bearing ans a triangular plate in it, do I need a new switch now? If so how will it be wired up using the original wires?

A new switch should plug straight in where the old one was removed, if the triangular plate is copper that's the contact plate that bridges the terminals as the key is turned, it's not an easy thing to describe how it goes back together, but a far more simple job to do.
my switch stopped working and it turned out to be a dry solder joint on the main power in wire ,this gave the impression it was a starter problem. Repaired the joint and all good, I wonder how many have had battles with starter relays and this could be part of the problem.

You were absolutely correct!! I found the fault. Put an occillator (wire detector) which I used to use as an engineer with BT, onto the ignition switch red/white wire but could not short it with an amplifier... so the wires between the ignition switch and connector in the steering cowl were spurious.
Got a ignition switch and loom from Tony White, well he gave me 2 just in case. Fitted it on and the engine fired up!

P.s Jbuckle said the same thing.... the ignition switch must be faulty.

Recently helped wire up a restoration stag.
many of the switches needed dismantling & cleaning before anything worked.
Some / most were in a very mucky state inside.
