My speedometer needle flutters, any one know how to fix.is a new gauge required?

First thing to look at would be the cable. Check the route to see if all the bends are smooth and there are no kinks. Remove the cable from the back of the speedometer head and withdraw the inner cable, checking for wear and damage. Lubricate the inner cable with light oil (3-in-one) as you feed it back in, but do not oil the top 6 inches, as you do not want oil in the speedo head.Last edited by DJT; 18 July 2021, 08:42.Dave

They float/flutter due to a tight inner cable as has been said, what happens is the cable binds & slow/stops momentarily, winds itself up then suddenly releases which give you the needle movement. It all happens in a fraction of a second of course. All the cures are already listed above.
Auto transmission rebuilding since 1979 - for my sins!
