    Timing chain cover bolts size

Hi all. Recently purchased my Stag and going through a massive learning curve. Great to be here. Confusion I have is on bolt size for the timing chain cover and what appears to be the standard set. It appears I need different size bolts to what is sold by for example Rimmers. i.e. top right appears to require 2 / 7 eighths and not the 4 inch provided. Can anyone help or am I make a school boy error with this? Thanks

Sounds correct. 4” bolt is for alternator but recall it being even longer 4-1/2” can check tomorrow.
Your source are nearly famous for sending out incorrect fasteners, but listing them correctly.
Consider ordering fasteners from Kayfast or Spalding fasteners via eBay.

thanks for the response. Alternator sorted. It's the right of the 2 top bolts on the cover. It looks like it should be just under 3inch but supplied 4inch. Just wondering if the 3inch is correct and the 4inch is incorrect??

        There are other (better?) suppliers:

James Paddock also puts together some neat kits -have used them several times - e.g. Hardtop Trim Fastener Kit.

FYI The James Paddock set looks spot on and as I thought. Others are providing incorrect bolt size for some areas. Thanks

LD parts will also make up a set for you if you ask nicely.

If you get the original Triumph part numbers then you can work out exact sizes from this :

                  Bolt/Screw description

                  Examples: HB 0910, HU 0860.

First part = Two letters, describing Bolt / Screw

HB = Hexagon BoltHU = Fully threaded screw

First part of number = thickness

(Hint: Number = AF Spanner size in 1/16ths)
                  Number UNF/UNC AF
                  06 3/16 3/8
                  07 1/4 7/16
                  08 5/16 1/2
                  09 3/8 9/16
                  10 7/16 5/8
                  11 1/2 11/16
                  12 9/16 3/4
                  13 5/8 13/16

Second part of number = length - Add 50 for UNC

(Hint: Number = number of 1/8ths)
                  04 1/2
                  05 5/8
                  06 3/4
                  07 7/8
                  08 1”
                  09 1 1/8
                  10 1 1/4

                  So:

                  HB 0910 = UNF Bolt 3/8x1¼”

                  HU 0860 = UNC Screw 5/16x1¼ ”

Nb Bolt length measured from underside of head.
