From memory, my starter was taking ~185A when I last measured it a few years ago (short-term overdriving the cable unlikely to be a problem with 170A cable.
Hi, When I moved the Battery into the boot under the spare wheel I used secondary welding cable. Not had any problems in 5 years.

Welding cable is very good in having a sheath over the primary insulation which provides very good resistance to abrasion - it's also very flexible and available in a range of sizes. Only downside is that it needs frequent supports when used in a fixed installation to manage the drooping caused by its flexibility.
For a long run, go for bigger cross section of conductor to keep the volts drop (=power loss) down.
