    ZF4 Speeds

    Afternoon all

As I have recently changed to a Webber I need to reset the Kick down cable on my ZF4.

Does anyone know at which speeds the box changes gears please? Mine is all over the place and I would like to know what to aim for.

    Regards

    Dave

Basically, loosen the cable for softer/earlier shifts. Tighten the cable for harder/later shifts.

    This might help: https://www.volvoclub.org.uk/faq/Tra...ble_Adjustment

      Great, Thanks Dave.

My box seems to change up to 2nd at 5 mph, then at 2000rpm goes to 3rd, then to 4th still at 2000rpm!!

      Regards

Mine works to change, on a light throttle, at 10, 20, 30, 40 and final lock-up at 50 mph

Altering the cable on the ZF4HP22 mainly alters the shift feel, it doesn't change the shift speeds that much unlike the Borg Warner units. It does have a pronounced effect on kickdown operation though.

Lockup on the zf4 converter should be at around 50 mph.
more modern boxes are much lower though.

                Just had a thought.

I do not know the fluid level in the box. I have never had any fluid on the dipstick, and I have tried cold, warm, in Park and Neutral. My dipstick is only 370mm long. It does not even reach the bottom of the tube. Is this normal?
                .
I have looked underneath and cannot see any drain plug either.

I wonder if I have a low fluid problem.

Clive Tate fitted a Range Rover governor to mine, which goes into lock-up at 45mph. Not a big difference, but welcome in slow traffic.
