    Thermostat

Just fitted the inlet manifold and water pump back. Got a fright .... thought either the inlet manfold or pump was leaking, loads of coolant in the vee...only after I filled the header tank.
Found that it was leaking from the thermostat housing... where did I go wrong? Firstly the new bolts from Peter ( Ldparts) were too long so put back the original bolts, according to this diagram the thermostat goes first then the gasket??? Correct?

With the thermostat being mounted vertically it is easy for it to slip and the flange of it to get caught between the inlet manifold and cover. BTDT.

After a head rebuild thought inlet manifold plug at bottom gave way as water dripped off that. took off manifold and found thermostat dropped. water came the cover.

Hands up! Had the incorrect thermostat placement leak too!
Removed the manifold before spotting it too

All sorted, carefully placed new thermostat with jiggle pin at 12.00 o'clock and put in the old bolts, new ones were too long! No leaks from Inlet manifold nor thermostat..... Only thing is have to set the carbs, as soonas the choke goes back in , it cuts off, never balanced nor set up carbs before.
Please don't tell me look it up in the manual.....I find it difficult.
Otherwise engine running ok no screeching sound anymore, noticed the volt gauge reading just over 14 with choke out....is this usual? Connected the kenlowe with override switch, working good with fan cutting in when selected lower settings.
Now I need to move it. I bled the clutch, but I heard that its best to take the cylinder off from the mounting then bleed it?
