    Dipstick felt washer and oil level

    Hi, Is this the correct size felt washer?

    Stupid question but which do I go by ...I am sure the felt washer is too thick.

    It does look a bit thick. The one on my car was flush with the metal cup when I fitted it, but has sunk a bit over the years. However the difference in level readings it is causing are so small they won't matter..

          These are from 4 different traders.........which one is the right one. Surely this should not be the case buying a single part.

              I wouldn't go overboard to get the exact part; just trim the existing one so that it is fitting flush with the metal 'cup' that holds it. I'd probably secure it into the cup with Evostick or similar. At least then you'll get a meaningful oil level reading, and it will also provide a seal for the crankcase.

                Must fit mine, apparently being sat in a packet in the boot is not the optimun position for it......

                    Just used a few of those to clean up the alloys, tried the mop type which wore out 2 or 3 per wheel, the felt type probably 1 for 2 wheels, and a better finish.

                      Although this is not exactly a safety-critical part, it is pretty depressing that even specialist suppliers of Stag parts can't be bothered to get it right. "A felt washer is a felt washer" attitude simply isn't good enough.
