Auto Gearbox Removal (BW65); How heavy is it?

    Hi,
I need to remove my BW65 gearbox to fix an ATF leak emitting from the bell-housing.
I want to do this safely and hence I am wondering how heavy the BW65 gearbox is and if I can remove this on my own from under the car.
I have noted from previous posts that many prefer not to use transmission jacks.
I have some good axle stands, but would like to be sure I can man-handle the weight of the box.
So, does anyone know the weight of the BW65 box please?
    Thanks,
    Den

The box isn't hugely heavy, but trying to lift it/hold it up when lying on the garage floor is pretty difficult/downright impossible. Possibly doable with a good trolley jack if you can get the clearance. A job I would probably pay to have done by someone with a proper lift.
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

I removed mine with a trolley jack, which was awkward to be honest. I bought a sealey transmission jack to refit it. I also used the same jack to install my short block from underneath.

The 65 will be coming out with its converter & oil.
if you do it without a lift it’s going to be awkward & probably messy. Sorry to say.

What are you looking to change when you get the trans out? Don't be tempted to just change the pump seal. If we have a trans out for leaks from the bell housing it must have (in the case of the BW35/65), front seal and front pump bush (the bush seals 95% of the oil), pump O ring & gasket. This involves partially stripping the trans but it is a lot of work to take it out only to find the leak is still there when it goes back. Also check for wear/corrosion on the pump drive of the converter, we would pressure test it as well as (rarely to be fair) they can crack around the pump drive & leak.
Auto transmission rebuilding since 1979 - for my sins!

I was originally planning to replace just the front oil pump seal, but now I see that the seal and bushing are often sold together.
Thanks for the expert advice, that has probably saved me a lot of hassle.
