When removing the power steering pump prior to battery removal, is it better to just remove the pump from its bracket, or the pump and bracket together from the chain case?
Chris
Me too, and by the way, it is on the head, not the chain case. I find I can ease it back and towards the wing, and hold it back with a bit of bent wire round the carb intake elbow. That keeps it out of the way while changing battery (or alternator if it is still in the original place). No need to disconnect power steering hoses.
It’s the three that hold the mounting bracket to the head (two are hiding beneath the lifting eye rib of the bracket). Once the three bolts and belt have been removed (don’t touch the PS pipes), the whole pump unit swings out of the way to enable the battery to be replaced. I usually wrap the whole thing in an old t-shirt to avoid damaging the wheel arch paint. Take special note of the comments above regarding fluid spillage and over tightening of the bolts on reassembly.
