    G/ box

Hi, I have finally got the car going, next step is rolling it out of the garage. I have bled the clutch somewhat. But I tried to put it in gear but to no avail. Tried reverse but it was crunching and grinding so gave up.

Where do I take it from here? Its a new box supplied by Robsport which the PO's mechanic fitted. I put in a new slave cylinder and the stainless steel hose, new fluid and blled the slave whislt it was bolted on.
Your help will be most appreciated.
Also does a Header Tank purge the air lock itself?

How long has it been sitting? The disc could be stuck to the flywheel if the clutch is bled ok then try starting the car with the clutch pressed down and your foot hard on the brake, or get someone to tow the car with it in gear and the clutch pressed down to brake the disc off the flywheel.
but before that check the release arm is moving ok and the push rod is in the centre hole.
If you add a teaspoon full of washing up liquid to the cooling system it will break down any air locks in the cooling system, an old plumbing trick for air locks in central heating systems

when I had no helper. I put my mobile phone under the car and set it to record video of the movement of the slave cylinder. how is the health of the master cylinder . I bled my system with a vacuum pump. I didn't have a helper press the clutch pedal.

Nice idea using your mobile to record a video of an "out of view" part to see how it is moving when you have no willing helper.

Clutch on mine was stuck on due to sitting for too long, I had to get the garage to release it which entailed getting it warm and driving then clutch down and braking. I had to get the garage to do it as I needed a new steering rack and rear brakes so wasn't possible to do myself. I'd tried getting the car running and hot for 20 mins to get heat through the clutch. Then switching off, disconnext the HT and turning in the key on/off with the clutch down and the wheels chocked up, that might work for you.

Before that I made sure the air was all out so the clutch pressure plate was actually moving, see here:
When engaging 1st gear to take off from stop, I cant shift smoothly. The car judders. Shifting into any other gears, I don't have this problem. I have a longer gearbox nose, new clutch release bearing. New cross shaft bushes, new clutch master and slave cylinder. Does anyone know what could be causing this? The other issue. On

It is often extremely difficult to bleed the system with the slave cylinder bolted in place.

To make sure all the air is out you really need to remove the bolts and slacken the pipe so the bleed nipple is at the top. Bleed the system then slacken the pipe just sufficiently to rotate it back into position. This will fix the job nearly every time, unless your clutch plate is rusted to the flywheel which I have had on regular occasions before the days of tax exemption and year round use!

So to make sure.....take the bolts off that holds the slave cylinder to the g/box then make sure the bleex nipple is at 12.00 o'clock........what is meant by slacken the pipe? Which pipe? Please.

Good thing I done this! I recorded the rod to see whether it was moving and engageing the slave....when I played back the video I noticed that the g/ box was moving a little
I found that there were at least 4 bolts missing that held the box, been under the car several times but you dont notice these things they are taken for granted.

Who ever the mechanic was I have been religiously fixing his botch-ups Had to find the bolts and fix it this afternoon took me 3-4 hours

Done all this today by using this tool......... what a mission! The bubbles kept rolling out, then finally whilst I was at it I bled the brakes.
Really good tool to have, one man operation.

Never had a problem doing a stag manual transmission bleed but it takes 2 people.
Use an easibleed for brakes on my own though.
