Passenger external door handle - stopped working

A few days ago, whilst away camping in Somerset, the passenger door handle stopped working. I wasn't the one operating it at the moment it went wrong, but I believe there was a bit of a "crack" type noise - similar to the handle slipping off fingers and springing back.
    The inside handle works ok.
The car is mid 1974 so I'm not sure if it would be mk1 or mk2 door mechanisms as I understand the changeover was around that time.
Before I start taking things apart now that we are home, has anyone any tips on what I should be looking for?

    Thanks
    Rod

    Rod.
It should be a Mk2 mechanism (A metal hoop on the "B" post). Either the rod from the handle to the lock has come undone at one end, or perhaps the handle has broken. That is unlikely, but they are readily available if it has.

Yes, the handle lever has sheared off - the part with the hole in it that connects to the metal plate.
I'll see if I can bodge it for now as it's the MOT on Thursday and I'm not sure I can work out exactly which bits I need, and get them, in time.....

SOC Spares supply them and their part number is 126. Others may also have them!

          Thanks Mike
Does the pin that goes through the plastic handle and locates in the metal plate come with the plastic handle do you know? I've been looking at Rimmers pictures and on a few suppliers sites and it isn't clear to me if this pin can be purchased separately, or how it is fitted into a new plastic lever/handle....

4.15pm edit. - Managed to bodge it by drilling a fine hole through the handle section where the handle actuating pin 'hole' had sheared and then wired that metal pin with the white sleeve onto the half round remainder of the plastic handle hole.
All reassembled and it works for now. It really is a pig getting the domed washer and small set screw back into the handle bowl thread nearest the back of the door!

I will now look into sourcing the parts to do the job properly at some point. As I asked above - does anyone know if the metal pin with the white sleeve that locates in the plastic handle lever, and into the metal door mechanism actuating plate comes with the handle lever, or can the old one be reused perhaps?

They aren't available and never were. Only the plastic handles, and now the bowls have become available. The whole door handle was only supplied by Truimph as an assembly. It is possible to remove the pin from the old handle if you"Close" the riveted end a bit, and tap it out. I then managed to fit it into the new handle and open the end enough to hold it firmly in place. If you need another I think you will have to find an old unit to rescue it from.
