Door bowl

Hi, I managed to get my near side door bowl in by filing both the bits where the bolts fit, now can someone be kind enough to tell me how in hell do you get the bolt in which is near the lock.
I think it is not possible! If you have done it then you must be worshipped.

The black handle needs either holding up or wedging up.
then the fastener assembly (cup, bolt & washer) can be offered up to the boss , unimpeded using a 5/16” socket on a 1/4” drive extension.
It may help to use bluetac to keep the fastener assembly in the socket.
An extra 5/16 or 8mm nut may also help in the socket, to allow pressure to the fasteners engagement.
adjustment of the catch & its operation may take several attempts before it clunks nicely closed & pops open nicely.
its possible & worthwhile though.

That’s the way I’ve done it. Especially useful to use an extra 5/16” nut in the socket to make sure there’s enough thread showing to start the screw into the handle boss.

I once used a screw that was about 3 turns too long.
Big mistake.
pushed out a bulge on the outside & scrapped a new chrome surround.
they were unobtainable…
Hence the new ones project began .

No luck on the bolt, too elusive for my limited know- how in these matters....

Did you try with the bluetac & extra nut in the socket?

I just replaced both of mine with the plastic chrome ones I was considering wrist surgery by adding swivels but that was costing to much. I used a socket with a paper towel stuffed in it and some blue tac.It will test you a bit also I put sound deadening in the door that was a challenge keeping it from sticking to the door where I did not want it. Just for good measure I replaced all the felt seals and had the motors out I feel your pain.

On a mk2 , with careful adjustment, the door can be made to close with a thunk instead of a twang!
