    Short engine removal

Hi all I need to remove my short engine no gearbox. Or heads Is it possible to take the engine out over the wing ?.
Has anyone tried I do have a 2 tonne hoist and a load leveller.
It seems to be a better option forms as my garage is not long enough to take engine e out unless I push car out of garage part way then push back in after .
    Cheers Glenn

    Hi Glenn,

Never tried it but it seems quite feasible yes, provided you get enough height for the sump to clear but you'd need that anyway from the front..

    Cheers

It is possible to lower a short engine through the chassis rails to the floor. It's narrow enough without the heads and may be easier?

Last time I took the engine out of my white Stag I did it after the heads were removed and leaving the gearbox in place. Although I did remove the bonnet for ease of access.

Can’t see any difficulty there , the wing is not a lot higher than at the front , providing you have the height for your hoist , no gearbox , much easier to handle . Regards Graham

Thank you but would still have to move stag over engine e to get engine.

Thanks Dave Gearbox is already disconnected and supported with a front wheel drive engine support across the rear of wings .

Yes you can remove an engine that way, are you going to use rope or chains ? we removed a dolomite engine with no head fitted we used chains bolted to the block using head bolts

I had to drop the x member allowing the engine to move forward to disengage from the gearbox, whether you lift sideway or from front should not matter
