    Speedometer drive gear replacement

Have been chasing an inoperable speedometer since reinstalling the gearbox. Have found with new cable (first one sheared when artificially spun with drill wrong direction- duh!!!), speedo will turn when driven from gearbox end. That only leaves the angle drive and internal speedo drive gear that connects to the cable end . Am guessing that my drive gear isn't engaged in the worm gear inside the overdrive (first hope), and isn't destroyed from previous efforts (have a replacement gear on standby)

Anyone changed one of these? Is it a simple fitting of the new drive gear rod/cable attachment point, with some wiggling to make it engage the worm gear, or is it more complex than that?

And thanks in advance for any answers: I'm learning that it's far easier to ask the experienced members here before I create other problems with my assumptions!!

Angle drive is the usual suspect, just unscrew the knurled ring and it will be immediately apparent if it’s Ok or not.
Mine just failed, the end plate somehow came off and the gear inside fell out of it.

Other than that you may want to indicate “A” type or “J type” to get help on removing the internal gear.

O/D is a J type....Have a new angle drive to try, but the old one looked ok as it came out on an earlier attempt. Thanks Terry! ( I get this knocked, and figure out where my overdrive electrical snafu is, and I'm done!!)

I would use a mirror or something to see if the gearbox drive is spinning with the prop shaft first. Not done it except with gearbox out but I would imagine it’s a bear to get out in the car.

If you change the speedo gear theres a o ring change that as well, but your have to be quick changing it over as oil will be released from the gearbox when you remove the speedo gear

J Type O/D is relatively easy to remove / replace without removing the gearbox.
You just need to be careful lining up the splines.
