    Oil pooling in cylinder head

I currently have a particularly smokey start up from overnight cold. This will clear after about 1/4 mile and not return until left parked overnight.

It would appear that oil is pooling in the cylinder head and then going down the valve guides to be burnt on startup.

Firstly has anyone got a magic cure for this, short of taking the heads off for reconditioning?

If no cure known any other helpful suggestions would be appreciated.

Chris I asked a similar question about the same type of thing months ago, regarding smoke and black watery stuff belting out of the exhausts on start up, but was told not to worry about it as all stags were the same. I am not e mechanic so have just cleaned up the black mess if the missus kicks off!!

Hi Chris, is your oil consumption high ? if not, it sounds fairly normal, if a little rich. A lot of Stag owners, including me, have a blackened garage door. N.B. in general, Stag paranoia is a good thing ! Martin.

Mines just the same - soot and water - marks on the garage to prove it

Actually, thinking about it,the oil is supposed to pool in the heads, it then lubricates the valve stems on start up. There are no stem oil seals, soit's extremely unlikely you're burning it, but keep worrying, it's an excellant diagnostic tool ! Martin.
