    Brake juddering

    Hello all,
In the "old days" some drivers adviced to solve this judder problem by braking hard when driving at a high speed - and this for five or more times.... What do you think of this?
    Best regards,
    Dieter - from Germany.

A friend of mine was recently told by his Land Rover Dealer to do exactly this to stop brake squeal on his Discovery.

I thought that was what causes brake judder, which is usually distortion of the disk from being overheated. Maybe they thought they could distort it back!!
Maybe if a car has been sitting for a while and a part of the disk has corroded it would wear off the corroded area?

        It worked too.

I think your right Terry. It was his wife's car that was not used often and when It was is had very gentle usage. Corrosion removal most likely.

My wifes car (Citroen) would always leave a brake pad outline on the rear discs, when braking you would get a vibration and thudding noise as they went round. I used to have to use the handbrake while driving to get rid of it or brake hard in reverse.
Solved the problem by selling it......

I get a similar thing with tyres on my old truck, if it sits for a week or two, especially in the cold. I get flat spots on the tyres and there is a vibration in the steering, just like unbalanced wheels. If I just keep driving, maybe swerve around like a F1 driver for a bit - it goes away!

              That's called warming the tyres.....
Police like this especially if you can use all three lanes of the motorway while drinking a coffee and shaving, shows total control....
