    Trolley jack wheels

Having painted garage floor with a new lick of paint, I am looking at options to replace or add something to my trolley jack wheels to avoid the cast iron wheels leaving marks

The large wheels are 95mm with an inner bore of 20mm

    It’s a machinenart 3 tonne jack

    Anyone done this?

If only there were covers that could be over them or nylon sleeves

    Could replace with nylon wheels?

    Any thoughts or experience appreciated

    Cheers
    Andrew

Hi Andrew, I would be dubious using nylon/plastic wheels on a 3 ton jack. Much better idea to tyre/sleeve the jack wheels.

I started lifting my jack about when I first painted my floor to stop the jack nocking the high spots off the paint, I very quickly learnt it was far better to run the jack all over the floor to creat as much damage as possible, then repaint, no more high spots , jack ran smoothly and very minimal damage

Check out Machine Mart. Their range of car jacks up to 3-tonnes have heavy duty nylon wheels (mine is their 2.5-tonne aluminium jack). They have a spares service and may be able to sell you nylon wheels for yours.

I think Frost supply a paint on rubber that you could consider for painting onto the rims.

I think this is the stuff https://www.amazon.co.uk/Plasti-Dip-...114Z42F8&psc=1

maybe bicycle inner tube cut into rings? Cheap and easy to replace. (not sure about the durability)
            The answer isn't 42, it's 1/137

Thanks all for the suggestions, all varied by the look of it

Have ordered today slightly undersized silicone tubing with a few mlll undersized inner diameter with a view to cutting rings and forcing them over the wheels and possibly gluing them in place depending on the fit.

              Worth a try

              Thanks again

                Andrew,

If you are looking at tubing then think of shrink wrap. I have used some very thick and strong examples.
it would shrink around the outer tyre then wrap down along the sides holding it inplace

OK, front wheels sorted using 90mm silicone hose pipe and works a treat but back swivel wheels bind as the diameter of the wheel is now touching under load

Quick question then as I am looking to replace the rear swivel wheels, what KG load do you think the rear wheels take or need?

Any thoughts as a lot them seem to be around the 60-100kg rating

                  Cheers

How about putting the jack on a piece of plywood sheet, maybe 3foot square,so it runs on that and protects the floor.

                          Hi All
Just in case anyone is interested I have bought and fitted these rear wheels from Classic Car World and they have poly wheels and rated for a 3.5 trolley Jack. Made by Sealy.
Now trolley won’t wake neighbours up nor mark my floor paint
They are 100mm in height including stem and 80mm from ground to underside of trolley.
                          Total cost incl delivery £30
Dave, I did go to my Machinemart but they didn’t want to advise on different wheels due to liability of safety but it was worth a try thanks
