    Block drain plugs

I'm going to drain coolant over the weekend and was wondering - is it advisable to buy new drain plugs first? do the old ones usually go back in ok?

I need to use the car the day after so want to make sure I don't leave it unfinished... bit of a pain as don't think there's anywhere to get Stag parts near Leeds (unless anyone knows otherwise?), and won't get parts in time from online supplier now...

I think they have fibre washers so it would probably be useful to have some replacements or an alternative handy.

Copper washers would be the ideal, fibre will split as you tighten up - if the original washer are still intact, heat the washers up to red hot with a blowtorch, and dunk them in some water.

This will soften (anneal) the copper and allow them to deform again to reseal.

and don't be suprised if, when you remove the drain plugs (one either side of the block), nothing comes out. You will need to poke thru the hole with part of a wire coat hanger or similiar to break thru the crud that will have 'set' around the inside of the plug hole.

          Hi Toby,
I have various copper and fibre washers if you get stuck. Also, I think Motasave stock some (and possibly Halfords) if that is nearer for you. Let me know the I/d and o/d if you need some
          cheers,
          Peter

It doesn't mention anything about corrosion inhibitors either...
