‘Professional’ means a few things.
1. someone makes a living out of it (often true)
2. a company expected free overtime (sad but true)
3. You expect unquestionable quality (optimistic usually)
4. membership of a body / association that guarantees nothing. (Fact)
5. Someone who cannot tell you the facts as they may face undesirable consequences if they do
(Almost exclusively true)
there may be more…. Sorry to say but the meaning of ‘professional’ has become a bit confusing these days & I try to avoid assuming it means what others might think.
I’m surprised at the chris witor response so far…. Only ever had good parts from there.
Richard, do any of the rollers appear to be non taper?
As mentioned, in the bearing world there are a lot of copies and fakes sadly.
It won’t repair your RBRR experience, but I’m sure a decent rebuild can be achieved without resorting to professionals or ‘snake oil’alternatives.
Willing to lean in if I can be of assistance.
Ive built a few, but only ever bought one rebuilt hub ( came from TDFitchetts) the fitchetts unit is still in active service & the ones I rebuilt too.
If the cross section of the hub is studied, it appears that the spacer is redundant…. There appears to be a location for each race, 4 locations for 4 races.
Unless triumph knew that a depth tolerance could not be achieved.
My take fwiw is the hub needs to be assembled & preferably preloaded then run for an hour then re checked for preload.
The taper has a very high capacity, so hubs should never be hydraulically split using huge forces as distortion is likely to occur at the flange & sharp spindle under cut.
That’s perhaps a reason why expensive alternatives are being offered / sold / bought.
